Mud Tyre Brands

As with types of mud tyre there are actually a wide variety of mud tyre brands, indeed almost all companies that offer 4×4 tyres have strengthened them up – or designed from scratch – for mud driving.

But between brands there can be a huge variance in quality.  How much work the company has put into tackling the unique challenges that mud driving can present is often clear in the quality of their mud tyre offering.

It is no good to simply put a wider tread on a 4×4 tyre for example… the type of tread, the thickness of the tyre and it’s optimal pressure, not to mention a lot more factors, contribute to how high a quality a mud tyre is.

So who are the leading brands in the mud tyre industry?

Mud Tyre Brands

Goodyear. Goodyear have slowly been building up a reputation for high quality mud tyres.  They have developed quite a range with the main talking point being the innovative kevlar series.  These mud tyres use kevlar wrap around for the tyres in order to protect the tyre from sharp terrain, and also gives side grip when the tyre is deep in mud.  Advanced silica helps to protect the rest of the tyre, whilst it maintains a very deep tread and amazingly accurate wet road performance.

BF Goodrich are regularly ranked amongst the best mud terrain tyres thanks to their attention to detail.  With innovations such as self cleaning treads to stop bloackages effecting grip through to cross tread design to help in accelerating and braking, BF Goodrich tyres deserve their excellent reputation.

Bidgestone are another major player developing in the mud tyre market.  The R&D budget brought over from the main tyre development in the more main stream markets has meant it has complete access to the most advanced materials and computer simulations – this has led to a very strong mud tyre performance, with special attention paid to the handling aspects of driving in mud.
